Q: What's the story behind 91s?
A:If you look at our photos before 91s, you'll see the same people. The brand didn't create the uniform. The uniform created the brand. 91s started from our shared appreciation for timeless clothing that we could wear every day. At a certain point, we stopped thinking in terms of individual pieces and started thinking in terms of a capsule. Each jacket, shirt, and boot isn't designed in isolation. They're designed to work together through a shared silhouette language and styling logic.
Q: What's your creative process?
A: The design language comes from our interest in military archives, French workwear, and Japanese menswear. Jeq's background in couture and tailoring is equally important. She brings an understanding of drape, proportion, and garment construction that helps translate those references into pieces that feel contemporary.
Q: How do you balance traditional craft with highly advanced modern technology? Can you tell us about the strengths of each?
A: We're interested in making rugged clothes with a tailored sensibility. At a certain point, we stopped thinking about individual products and started thinking about a complete wardrobe system. Each jacket, shirt, and boot is designed to work together through a shared silhouette language. When we see how people wear 91s, combining jackets with specific shirts and boots, it reminds us that we're not just building products. We're building a wearable system.

Q: Your favorite piece from your collection?
A: The Officer Jacket. It represents the balance of rugged refinement that defines 91s. It has the structure and practicality of traditional workwear, but with a cleaner silhouette that makes it easy to wear every day.
Q: How about your favorite material?
A: Leather and silver. We love materials that develop character over time. Leather develops a patina through wear and tells the story of its owner, while silver changes and gains its own personality through use. These are materials that become more personal the longer you live with them.
Q: If there's one thing a broader audience should know about 91s, what would that be?
A: 91s is about building an ecosystem. For us, clothing is never just about the garment itself. It's about the people, crafts, and stories connected to it. We want to work with makers who have their own expertise and perspective, from artists like Avggs, bootmakers like Willie's Leather, to silversmiths like 13luckymonkey. Each collaboration adds another element to the world we're building. The goal is not just to create products, but to create a connection between different crafts and bring them together through the 91s language.
